D70 Carrier offset Identification

How do I determine the offset on my d70? Can't read the B.O.M. on the axle tube.
Thanks

I read that there are a couple of different offsets. With my luck I'll order the wrong one.

Ya I am going to a set of gears & want to make sure I order the correct set.

Looking for 5:13 I will need a carrier also

OK, maybe you can answer this question? I have heard that a 70u has a pinion with a little more offset from the carrier, in order to have deeper gears like 3.07? Is this right? And if so, wouldn't he have to be careful that he wasnt trying to put these gears into a 70u?

I am well aware I may be wrong, but I had heard that from a (rather) reliable source and would like to know if it is right.

the dana 70 has a carrier break at 4.10/4.56 for all 3 dana 70 units in theory.

The difference in the models are in the bearings, and the spline count and the 70U has the smooth tight bottom.

the 70HD has bigger carrier and pinion bearings than the standard dana 70, and has 35 spline axles.

the dana 70U has smaller pinion bearings than the standard dana 70. and has 32 spline axles.

the standard dana 70 can have 30 or 35 spline axles.

The diference in offset . 5/8 or its a 1/2 -dana 70's are the only ones that came with the 1/2 inch offset and they stopped in 1971. 90% of 70's around today have the 5/8 offset. the current dana 70 as referred to is really a dana 70B and has the 5/8 offset.

if the dana 70 has 3.07 gear in i have heard they are a totally different housing and you have to get really inventive to get differnent gears.

the dana 70U if that is trully what it is is a 5/8 offset all of them are.

what year truck is this out of dodge ford?

I don't know what it came out of, 35 spline shafts, 4:10 gears & 70 cast in to the housing. single wheel axle. I can take some pics if it will help.
