Dana 30 carrier necessary?

Alright, this should be a fairly simple question but I want to be sure I am right first.

I plan on taking out my dana 30 carrier in order to pull out an aussie locker later today. I cant remove the locker without taking out the carrier so leaving it in is not an option. I am doing this since my ring gear is torn up so I already have my axle shafts taken out and have been driving around in 2wd like that for a while now.

Do I need to put the carrier back in after I take the locker out since I am not using 4wd and the axle shafts are already out? I cant see how it is holding anything together and nothing inside the axle should be spinning in 2wd. I hope I can just pull out the carrier, take out the locker, and not have to worry about putting it back in for the sake of time. Thanks!

this is a TJ?

I thought the outer axleshaft held the unti bearing hubs together, so you really should at least put those back in. Someone plesae correct me if I'm wrong.

You shoudl be fine running without the carrier and inner axleshafts.

Why can't you take the locker out with carrier in the axle...cross pin hitting the ring gear? You have the axles out, so pulling the carrier is pretty easy, I'm just wondering.

I just sold the aussie locker I had to 95GranZJ and we took it out of my carrier and installed it in his earlier today. I saw no need to put the carrier back in after I took the aussie out since my ring and pinion gears are, err, missing some teeth and I already had my inners out so I could still drive on the street. I have been driving without inners since early march and saving money to put in a 44 or 60.
