just wanting to see if anyone could offer some direction on removing the output gear set from a dana 300 t-case. I decided to tackle putting bearings in it without any literature. I've done alright sofar, just can't get the rear shaft out. I got the housing and rear bearing out, but there is still one gear and the shaft inside the case with the sliding clutch collars on it. also when I go back with it, is there any timing marks for the gears, I didn't see any, and what is a good way to get the needle bearings to stay in the center shaft, so I can put the shaft through the case. Thanks for any help in this matter.

You need a press or a mallet and a block of wood. Remove the rear square cover and the shim pack, there is a bearing/race there; this needs removed. On the rear tail cone, remove the tailcone, and another bearing rides there that will need pressed off. Once the bearings are off the 2 pieces literally fall apart. It will need reshimed when you reinstall it, you should have about 2 & 5 thousands shaft endplay.

The needle bearings arent that bad. Take the intermediate gear, smear some vasoline or bearing grease around the inside hole, start inserting the needle bearings, put a thin layer on top of the needles to verify holding, put the washers/spacers on, put the brass guides in the case and hold them to the case wall with vaso or grease. To put the gear in, I tie a string around the intermediate gear, lower it in with the string then slide the shaft thru.
