Dana 300 spline engagement

I want to put a clocking ring on my 700r4 to dana 300 that I'm flipping. How much spline engagement is required? I can't seem to find anything on the net. I would have about 1.125" of spline if adding a 3/8 clocking ring. It measures about 1.5". I have looked at re-drilling the adapter and 300 case, but it doesn't look like it will work out.

I dont remember the length, but I have done that set up before with no issues.

General rule is minimum engagement should match diameter of shaft, iirc.
