I just picked up a late 70s Dodge Dana 60 from thecarman. Now I am looking for parts to start building it to go under the trooper.

For you guys with Dana 60 fronts, what High Steer arms are you running? and how do you like them? I am leaning towards a set that will put my tie rod behind the axle.

I will also need to regear the axle to 4.56. Is the carrier break for a 60 front 4.10/4.56? I have searched, but cant find a solid answer. I also saw mention of thick and thin gear set, but could not find much information. Could I purchase a set of 4.56 thick gears to work on a 4.10 and down carrier?

By the way, if any vendors see this I am shopping for these items...

Hey man,
4.56 is the carrier break for the low pinion 60s. Last time I knew, no thick gears for the low pinion 60s.....

I got pricing on the way to you.

Not sure what brand high steer arms I have but they are the ones that go in front of the axle, the only issue you might have with running the tie rod behind the axle is figuring out how to mount hydro assist, but i'm sure you could figure it out. Pretty sure the high steer arms are just the generic ones that go on chevys. As far as gearing yea dont think there are thick gears, but 4.56's? That seems really low for any rig to gear at 4.56, I mean if your gonna pay for it all might as well gear her up good and low. Also if you get tired of the drive flanges on the front 60 you can put dana 70 hubs right on there to get the selectable version thats what I have.

Im running the Sky Mfg arms on mine. Ive been really happy with them. First thing I would do is buck up the $100ish dollars to rebuild the kingpins. The Sky arms are 1 piece, which is nice because some other mfg's have a separate piece for the cap, which adds parts and decreases strength.

As for the gears, you can run a ring gear spacer and a thin gear. I have one still new in the box w/bolts that I will give you for $15 next time I am in Dur-ham if you are interested.

Also, replace the seals that go on the inside of the outer axleshaft, up against the u-joint yoke. If you don't, everytime you get near water or mud, you will be putting new bearings in your front hubs.

I'm not running high steer arms on my D60, so I don't have any real world experience. I really like these arms though from WFO Concepts. Give Trevor a call at WFO, he is a great guy to deal with.
