is this slinger shim necessary my set-up kit did not come with one and i need to finish this today am i ok leaving it out thanks

Can't use the old one?
That's about .030" of ground to make up with shims behind the race....that's a good bit..

Also...I can't recall if the bearing seats on the pinion flush without the slinger there...

I'd try to use the old one if you can (or even have an old one)...bend it...flatten it...as long as it's not scraping anything you can use it...the press will take care of flattening it against the bearing/pinion if it's bent a little...

What kind of shotty install kit doesn't come with a new slinger?

i would use it, sounds like you got a genuine gear set w/ install kit thats the only ones i know of that don't come with slingers. if its in a offroad truck in the front it probably does not matter but then again i have never left one out so i wouldn't know.

the middle install kit from randy's doesn't come with one. you have to get the master install kit i found that out after the fact. and i just ended up flattening it out as best as possible and putting it back in thanks for the input
