I was close to a Sears today so stopped in to get a Torx T-27 bit/socket, new snap ring pliers and some crooked neck needlenose pliers. They were out of everything. All I got was some replacement ends for my snap ring pliers. It looked more like they were selling down their stock than just low on stuff.
Where can I get good quality Torx?

Yeah sears pretty much sucks. I stopped by there like 10 years ago to replace the 3/8 drive swivel I broke and they didnt have one to give me. I mean really. You dont have the most common tool in stock. Thats when I stopped buying craftsman and started buying from the local snap on dealer. At least I know I can call him anytime day or night and get a tool I need.

there is no such thing as a good torx. (sorry snappy)

the reason is the fastener itself lends to weakness in the socket. it grabs so little of the fastener that the end takes all the torque.
there are better sockets but none that won't break.
i'm sure snappy will tell you that it's one of the most warrantied items.
a snap-on will last longer than most but it will still break eventually.

Well I know this guy that can help.....

Just get an autozone one.. Odds are it will break over time anyways and their only like 5 bucks...

Transman you are correct. There are several things that will help prolong the life of them though.
1. Clean out any grim for total engangement.
2. Don't use them on impacts...they are a hardened bit and wil crack when imapcted, the cheaper ones aren't hardened as much and twist off...

I give my guys a spare 27 bit when I sell a set, its the smallest 3/8 drive in the sets and the nature of the beast is the ones that break the most...

Lee also check out the ftxb27e, its the ones made for brakes, they have a coating that makes them slightly larger and engange more of the fastner...

Cover your ears Chris...He means well.
