anybody ever wheeled the Daniel Boone Backcountry Byway? I’m meeting up with my brother next month and running it. I’m trying to get any information I can as well as find a safe place to park his car for the weekend. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

We (Mid Carolina Jeepers) did it in February, but apparently we never posted a trip report. It was a lot of fun, nothing too crazy. We did all but a short section because we did the "extreme" section on the first go around, came back to go the regular route and the "deep river crossing" had rose to a point we didn't feel comfortable getting everyone in our group back across.

The extreme section is an old elevated rail bed that goes through a very remote area. Its narrow in places, and in spots you have to go down to the bottom and back up. There was some mud, few trees down, and cool site along the way.

We (CTB) did it a few years ago. We stayed at a motel because it was February and the temps were in the single digits.

There was a few campgrounds near the motel but they were closed that time of year.

Ill see what i can find in old newsletters.

Be prepared to cover a bunch of miles with little to no obstacles. Nice ride but no challenge (at least where we went).

Found this from a few years ago...

So it appears that most of the campgrounds are closed for the year. I am staying at the Hemlock lodge which is the one linked in the last email. If you need to call them the number is 606-663-2214. The Lady I spoke with said they have an alternate parking lot for overflow that should be fine for tow rig/ trailer parking if there is not room at the normal lodge parking lot.

One campground that is open is the Lago Linda campground. Lago Linda Hideaway the phone number is 606-464-2876. They have RV sites and tent camping sites. However, they are also 19 miles from Slade. There is also primitive camping in the Red River Gorge at several small campgrounds that may or may not hold an RV.

You should be able to find a campground near the Hemlock and that was fairly close to the trails.
