Ok, in years past I have done the Daniel trail with the ledge, hill climb, etc. But I have never heard of it called the Daniel Boone trail until tonight at my work. Some guys in a red jeep on what looked to be 33" BFG A/Ts noticed my Raider sitting in the parking lot and we started talking about Uwharrie briefly. They asked me if I had done the Daniel Boone trail.... Am I missing something here? Was Daniel Mnt. that the trail was named after named after Daniel Boone? Or are people just coming up with weird names for the trails? Like I hear some people calling "The Ledge" on Daniel "Shock Rock".

(Oh yeah in case the Jeep guys are on here, nice jeep btw).

Been Daniel since I was first there in about 1999.

What I do know is that it used to be called the mine trail because of the gold mine. And the mountain that the trail runs by is called "Daniel Mountain". So my guess would be the trail was named after the Mountain. But what was the Mountain named after?

Gold Mine trail was a different trail. They opened Daniel when Gold Mine closed. Both started at the CottonPlace trailhead, Daniel butts into RML by the double parking lot, IIRC Goldmine ran into Dickey Bell.

I think they closed gold mine because of bald eagles nesting too close to the trail.

I just wonder if with Tellico closed they might be more apt to opening or re-opening trails. I know they blocked off the bypass on Daniel, and are letting it go to make it harder because of Tellico's closure.

There have been loads of changes over the years.
I spent some time talking to Bruce Hatton ( Radioman (?) ) who is as old as the hills we wheel on.
He knows about most of the history there ... I hope he sees this and chimes in.
