Anyone on here have a dash cam? Any experience with them? Wondering if they really help when in an accident or a cop pulls you over.

I have one in my trunk. I bought a new car and took it out of the old one and never installed it. Hopefully that’s helpful.

I have one sitting on my desk here that I have intended to put in my work truck for several weeks now. The last one I had sucked and would turn off on its own and was very hard to manipulate.

Do yall use them for insurance purposes?

One would think with the camera technology in all the new vehicles on the road there would be a way to tap a dvr into the factory system for recording the video that’s already being taken. Just my.002

For what it’s worth I actually had a wheeling buddy have one save his ass. Guy crawling in slow lane, he passes while pulling his jeep. Other guy cuts him off and brake checks him. He obviously can’t stop quick enough, and nails the guy. Shows trooper footage and the other guy was at fault. I want them for all my cars but never get around to it.

We have a bunch of the Yi dash cams, but it seems they don't make them anymore. I'd recommend avoiding any of the no-name chinesium crap and sticking with slightly more reputable chinesium crap like Yi, Anker, Thinkware, Viofo, etc. All of ours just record looking ahead and are powered by ignition-hot sources so the camera turns on and off automatically. The SD cards go bad once in a while and need to be reformatted about every six months, but no problems other than that.

Ditto for a coworker in an accident last week. he was turning right, from the right lane and some numbskull lade pulled beside him in the bike lane on the right so he got his back corner clipped. She tried to deny it, he just pulled the rear facing cam that showed it. Sent the footage to her insurance.

Yep! Most law enforcement now only collects evidence and passes it to the report. They won’t admit fault to whom

I have a random el cheapo from Amazon I used on the RV. Was pretty decent for the cheap $. It had motion sensor and would turn on and record and save automatically if it sensed something going on in front of it while “off” and impact sensor and would save automatically.
Like Shawn said, the SD card needed to be reformatted occasionally and was a bit frustrating but not overly difficult.

I’ve seen Garmin and some others have some options and even include vehicle speed, which seems nice if you need it for fighting a ticket.

have on in the tool truck. Saved my ass back in march. Lady was on the phone and crossed 3 lanes to pull in front of me. Cop asked if I had one and looked at it. Saw I laid on the horn, locked up the brakes and changed lanes as soon as the car passed me on my right side. Sees the lady get out of her car still on the phone. When he went to talk to her she was still on the same phone call, he said 48 mins at that point he was there! He came back and said totally on her. Her insurance company called and asked my side as there client story did not match mine or the accident report, when I said I can email over the video the cop based the report off of they asked where to send the check........ Firm believer.......

Have one in my truck for proof of idiots. Whenever I travel to pick up cars (usually south Fla) it's always on, haven't needed it yet.

How about an non tech guy user friendly dash cam? I bought a Rove cam that I saw advertised and have started to set it up a couple of times and just put it back on the counter realizing that I need to allocate time to go thru all of the controls and setup procedures. This one will link with my phone and has many features. Here's the features I would like to have on one. Turn it on and it's set. Save video with one button that's called the SAVE button.

Right? It would be so much simpler and more user friendly if the would just put a logical word instead of a stupid symbol. When I used to work at a particular company down in Matthews that @R Q and @ncsutj know real well, they had a division that did manufacturing process event capture camera systems. Their programmer was a chinese guy that wanted to use friggin symbols for everything and it was completely unintuitive what they meant. The record or capture button was sybolized by a lightning bolt. One day I told him "why don't we just put the word on the icon instead of a symbol since theres plenty of empty space" to which he replied "evweewon no lighting boat is capsha!":shaking:
