Ok so today i went to get my '96 suburban insepcted. IT FAILED BECAUSE OF SOME STUPID LITTLE LIGHT BULB NOT COMING ON. My MIL(?!?) bulb is not coming on when you turn the igintion to on, this light is evidentally my check engine soon light.

Anyone know of the procedure to reset that light? I am going to try that first if that doest work i have to pull apart the dash.

Thanks
Spence

You need to take the dash apart and check the bulb. If you are not the original owner someone might have taken it out to pass emission because the light was on. You can reset the light if it is on with a scanner (they will do it at auto zone).
Your Truck will not pass if the light does not come on at all.
you can also have auto zone scan your engine code to see if there are any.

if it's not coming on when you turn the key...there's no "reset" to deal with...

the bulb is dead (or missing)...

the reset would come into play if you put a good bulb in there and the light stayed on...

Just take your truck to a hole in the wall shop somewhere that will pass just about anything. Ive seen some scary trucks get inspection stickers out where Im from. My old ford didnt have break lights at all and it passed with flying colors.

Before you start ripping the dash apart, see if you have a blown cig lighter fuse. GM in their infinite wisdom thought putting the MIL power and the cig lighter on the same circuit would be cool.

I don't know of any of those shops around Winston anymore. I used to be able to fid some when I lived in Wilmington as well. They got alot thougher on the shops here.

Glad I have my registered in the mountains

Here in W-S it is OBD2 like the rest of the state will be. Most shops (like us) will not pass it if the light does not come on because the DMV sends undercover cars to shops with little things like that wrong with them just to bust you. We replaced a bulb in a car last week just to find out that the PO had pulled it to sell it. It had 4 codes in it. If you have the right scan tool (Auto Zone won't) you can command the light on. If the scanner can't command the light on (even if the bulb is out) then there is another problem. I am not trying to sell myself, but if you need any help with it give me a call. 744-4444
