Last night I woke up to a phone call at 12:40 am, from someone claiming to work for "my credit card company's fraud department" they didn't say which one, and went on to claim I had over $2400 in charges in my name in Guatemala.

I said "Do you know its 1 am"

The person continued on without responding to my question.

I said, look, which credit card company are you from?

The person continued to go on without responding to my question.

I said look if you won't answer my questions this phone calls over.

The person continued to yap and I hung up.

I only have 1 credit card, and my limit is well below $2400.
I don't think these people call at nearly 1 am.
The call was from a local number I cannot find any information on.

What should I do?

Is there someone I need to contact?

Well, surely there is a way to check your credit card account online. Give it a look. Hell even give them a cal directly and ask.
My suspicion is that you did the right thing, but it wouldn't hurt to check up on it.

If your card is through a bank (bb&t, wachovia) etc... they will deny the charge until they verify you are infact out of country.

My bank called me one time to ask if i was in italy, i said no, and they sent me a new card in the mail.

I checked my bank account, no new charges, I called wachovia (who I bank with) and they said I was in the clear there also.

I called Capital One also (My credit card company) and they also were unaware of the charges that had been mentioned.

Because of that I was less than concerned, but maybe I will call the number back after work tomorrow.

The phone number that called me was 336 632 9652...

Just incase anyone feels like looking into this... I did a basic google search and found it was a Bellsouth number, but thats all I got.

I will call the number tomorrow evening and see what I can't figure out if nothing comes up between now and then.

I called it, seems like some guy in a XJ bought $2400 dollars worth of rainbow flags.

Na, said disconected. Same thing happened to me about a year ago. UNless they was able to tell you who you were It's probably nuthin.

Mu wife's account was hacked about the same time, the bank called her. Charges were showing up coast to coast, about 6 I think. They gave her a new account #, seemed they had hacked the account, not the debit card, or atleast that's what they told her.

you got any buddies that live near? Arizona Pete's in greensboro?

632 is a 27407 phone number.

2203 Jane street. last name of Solomon?

It's trivially easy to spoof a caller ID number.

I wouldn' have answered my phone at 12:40am, lol.

Yeah, that phone call was more than likely spoofed.

And I sure wouldn't have carried on a conversation at 1am. I would have answered to see if it was one of my brothers looking for bail money or something, and then hung up.

Can't be helped, it was nobody who's voice I knew, that was my first thought. I always try to answer my phone because it could be a family member or something, the conversation lasted 21 seconds, so I don't feel too bad about it lol.

Yes spoofing numbers is easy with fancy phones, even have apps for it. Yeah I know a few ppl that live near APs but I can't imagine any of them making that call, and also didn't recognize the voices.

This is your answer. It is an app for a phone. A friend of mine has used the same app to make quite a few prank calls. $2400 in guatemala was the most believable scenario in the list of possible calls that the app would make. Was the caller a female voice?
