Short version. Payed off home loan late last year. Was with New Res. Something or other. Original mortgage was sold more times then I can remember.

New Res. Has no business office location walk in desk situation. Several phone calla. Money allocated, spent, and confirmed but yet to see my paperwork or deed. Just a email confirming what and how much and processing.

What gives? Am,i gonna have to sue to get my deed?

Unless I’m mistaken, you don’t get a deed, it is just recorded at the register of deeds as no lien. I never have had a deed for either of our paid for properties.

It took me 3 reads to figure out - you mean "paid off loan loan"? ;-)

What @ponykilr said. I payed off my mortgage back in November & was wrongly expecting a deed to come to me, similar to a vehicle title when you pay for a car. I called my county register of deeds and they told me it was recorded in my name. They were able to email me a PDF showing the property registered in my name.

I would just be happy to get some real paper work. That was what they explained to me. I did think you got a piece of paper saying it was yours like a car title.

After you provided proof? I was understanding paper work came to me then I presented it to the register of deeds.

No, lien holder sends it.

Check at your courthouse but I bet it’s been done.

Will do, I don't live in said county. Wonder if a phone call would work.

Fwiw, when we bought our house (still paying mortgage we got a deed.

You can probably do it online through the county GIS/Tax Records/Register of Deeds website. If you want, PM me the address and I can sleuth it up for you in a matter of minutes.

Again, what @ponykilr said. I didn’t sign anything. Come to think of it, I guess anyone could call, give my name and address and get a copy of my deed. Hmmm .....
Or just go to the register of deeds website for whatever county you are in ;)

You most likely already have a deed. As said, check the county register of deeds website.

A mortgage is really just a loan you take to pay for the house, using the house as collateral. You hold the deed and the mortgage company generally holds a deed of trust. Basically they give you the money for the house, you pay for it, but if you default on the deed they take the home as the collateral against the mortgage.

FWIW, I got a copy of the deed for my home when I bought it. I think this is relatively standard and is included with your closing paperwork. Might want to check through that info. If you go to print the deed off, it's usually on that dumbass legal sized paper so it might not size exactly right. The ROD in North Carolina requires very specific margins.

Thanks all. Did some research as y'all suggested. Paper work was filed. Turns out the barely English speaking rep from the finance company knows less than the NC "pool".

Guess I'm a free and clear home owner.
