I was on a 7-10 acre island on Lake Norman when my brother boxer took off. I walked the island 3 times and she came by me once and was off like the wind tracking something. My Bull boxer saw something and darting after it and I noticed it was a white tail deer. I searched for an adition hour before I got in the boat to circle the island. It was getting dark so I went to get my brother and a flash light. When we returned to the island she was shaking on shore like she was cold. We didn't think anything of it till we got home and noticed her hips/back was hurting and she was bleeding from her upper rear leg.
Crazy huh, my brother doesn't beleive the attack occurered but I think it did and there was nothing too overgrown to catch her skin like that (no bob wire)
Could also be a muskrat or beaver but do not know. What do you think...........

eh...id think deer would be more inclined to high tail it outta there, but if the deer got cornered, i could see it kicking the dog.

make sure you boost that rabies vaccine.

matt's dog got its ass kicked by bambi.

The island is very narrow and Kallie the boxer is full speed everywhere.

doesn't look like a bite off hand, more like a deep scratch/cut.

it wouldn't be hard for a stub of a branch sticking from a tree, etc. to do that as the dog was running by.

i would say a wild hog too... there are plenty all over islands around here.. kinda scary

I have lived infront of this island since 1982 and have never seen a hog on it.... actually I am looking at it right now and if there were any animals on it I could see them at some point

ground hog?

my lab/pitt mix tracked one down last spring and ended up with several staples on her face from its claws.

my ridgeback then quickly stepped in and put an end to things.

sorry about that. do take the dog to a vet and get some test run.

The wound is still healing but looks great. It was a big cut with a deep 10" scratch. I think is was done with a kicking action rather than a bite.
I found out from a Wildlife officer that a beagle stamina is 10x that of a deer. He said many dogs get hurt running deer and boar. He also said many sportsman will sew up their dogs in the feild during a hunt.

we used to go Boar hunting on Air boats down in Florida, Talk about a thrill. Hunted with dogs with the intention of keeping the hogs alive. American Bulldogs. The dog would jump off the boat and chase the hog down. then you grab the hog by the back legs avoiding the tusks. Hog tie them and take them home to fatten the up for cookouts. the dogs would often get stuck and skewerd by the 200+lbs hogs. I knew one in particular that loved the hunt. they'd go back to the truck, stitch him up and the next weekend there he is, on the bow looking to get another hog.
