Is there any way to tell the amperage output of a delco alternator by just looking at it? I'm bored and am looking to do a weldornator on the jeep using junkyard parts. Correctly identifying a 100 amp alt would make my life a little easier when I'm at the pull a part. TIA

Nevermind. According to advance autoparts' website, everything late 80s to mid 90 GM cars, trucks and vans all had 105 amp alts as long as it had A/C. Good info if anyone else decides to build a weldernator.

Hey willnes33, I had bookmarked these a while back.
One can never have too much info, doing these type of projects.

Let me know how you make out!:bounce2:
Ha. Google led me to those threads just last night. I'll probably start on this in the next couple of weeks. I think the only real hardish part of the whole thing will be mounting it and bootyfabbing a pulley off of one of my current accessories.

i found a 140 amp alt from gm, should be lots of junkyard cores too. Used one to convert my '66 buick from it's lowly 40 ext reg unit

Thanks. A 140 amp will provide a little more punch on the tip of the rod. List printed and I'll take it to the pull a part when I go.
