Yesterday, Google Photos suggested a "Highlights of 2017” album that had been auto created. Rat rod t-bar drop brakkit made it in along with things like Yosemite National Park, riding the supermoto to the top of Mt. Mitchell, watching a rainstorm approach from Hanging Rock, and an Emperial garden in Japan:

Looks like art to me! Put in in the Googenheim!

only 75k miles huh

Better picture of the crack:

It started where the original builder booger notched the unibody and went all the way around to the outside. The pinch seam was almost completely removed so the inside and outside sections completely broke apart. I decided to plate the inside of the frame to get a solid connection from the steering box mount to the trackbar mount.

Then drilled and welded the crack and covered it with reinforcement.

Don't pay attention to the poop weld.

Also added a steering stabilizer. We'll see if there's any improvement.

That pic makes it look like the oil pan is really close to the front axle at ride height.

Derelict is still kickin'; Serving mostly as a scrap bin this year with bars closed. I decided while I was putting shakedown miles on the Hambulance between phases I would fix a few thing that always sucked. Today was crossmember day.

This morning status:

Those are technically isolators in there, but the are very stiff and the bolts go directly from metal to metal so effectively there is no vibration damping. The result was a teeth chattering low idle.. I decided to swap it out with a Merc isolator from the 300D that might hopefully be tuned for a high amplitude low frequency input. The trans mount from the car was some odd looking thing so I had to use an engine mount.

Broke everything down, found that I couldn't fit the isolated on the current crossmember section because of the height. The bottom of the crossmember was pretty well Swiss cheese as well, so I made the decision to waste the day making an entry new one. Well, new center section. Cut and capped the existing ends and added some tube, found the best orientation for the isolator and made a new mounting plate:

Measured up for the correct height on the flange, and added some side plates for stiffness on the engine side mount.

Fit verified, removed for final weld. Just needs paint and reinstalling.

Looks the same, but black now.

Not really worth an update, but I was impressed enough with the results I figured I'd report back. I needed to move it out of the driveway for some afternoon projects so I took it for a spin to see the difference. Without being too exact I'd say 43% vibration reduction at cold idle, 19% off idle, and 76% at warm idle. It also started unassisted at 27 degrees when I couldn't get in the Tesla because the door handle was frozen closed and the Hambulance wouldn't start.
