For those with detached garages on a separate service, are you charged at a commercial or residential rate? I just found out a 2 car detached garage on the property with a separate service and 100 amp box is a commercial account with DE.

I have seen folks post paying $14-35 base rate for a second service but curious what a commercial rate (if those are not) will run.

Thanks

I have 200A service on my garage with municipality. I leave the radio lights on 24/7 and my bill is $36 which is the minimum. In the summer I run 2 window a/c units and it gets up to $55 or so.

Mine is a separate service, but I have it combined with my house bill. I have a heater in the shop that keeps it 60* in the winter. We have gas heat in the house. Power bill never seems too bad.

Just do it. Don’t have to hear the wife complain while I’m laying a fat bead and the air compressor kicks on.

Should be SGS-Small General Service. There's about $18-20 in minimum charges. My shop runs about $30-60/month total. Usually around $40-45.

My electric bill was 78 bucks last month and I keep the house between 65 and 68 all year. I'm really hoping it's not very expensive when I do add another service for the shop that I haven't built yet...

Thank you all. Found out it is considered a non-residential account, not commercial. And that the base rate will be $10-20 and usage rate will be "similar to residential" but was not given specifics. 100 amps will be plenty for what I am doing in the near term.
