So I recently bought a set of the 20v max Lithium Ion drill set (impact driver and drill) to use on my whole house remodel. This is after I took 2 of the 18 volt sets back because batteries lasted literally for about 5 minutes total of run time. Needless to say, I am still not impressed with the battery life of the 20v either. I can run about 40 3" screws to a charge on these, maybe a few more. Am I asking too much out of these batteries?

Go milwakee and be done...

The milwaukee stuff really that much better? The dewalt stuff is stout but i do agree about the batteries not lasting long enough. Granted they make higher amp hour batteries but all my buddies batteries dont last as long as my kobalt 18v lion tools

I've got the Milwaukee Fuel brushless hammer drill and impact and they are great In every aspect. I had to replace two panels on my shop roof last weekend, which required unscrewing 80 screws, and rescrewing 80 new self drilling screws through the new panels and into the frame. I also had to do some work to the ridgevent which was 84 old screws out and new screws in. I was still on the same battery and it still showed 2 bars out of 4 at the end of the day. My knees and back didn't hold up so well, haha.

I replaced my 18v dewalt stuff that was probably 5+ years old with the Milwaukee but it was just worn out, no particular battery life complaints. The Milwaukee stuff is getting at least twice the battery life though.

One thing you'll find about the Li-Ion though.... With the old nicads...when you were running out of power, it would slow down and you'd get some warning. The Li-Ions just run normal and suddenly shut down when they go flat...usually when you are on a ladder, and have the last screw of the day halfway in.

My Hitachi drill and impact done great, I've put a hurting on my impact the batteries easily last 3 hours of heavy use , they are my first set and brand other then my old snap on. And they keep up for sure

Thanks for the input! They will be returned soon enough, haha. I like the Milwaulkee and Makita tools I've used in the past. Any body have any luck with Makita stuff? Those are probably the 2 I'm leaning too now.

I also considered the Makita and Bosch stuff. I went with the Milwaukee because I could get a compact impact with a 1/2" square drive and a brushless motor. And I've had great service life out of Milwaukee stuff in the past. Home Depot has Milwaukee, Makita, and Bosch stuff in stock, Lowes only carries Bosch. Wasn't too much of a factor for me because I'm cheap and bought everything online from www.toolbarn.com

@jeepinmatt how strong is your 1/2" impact? I have a 36v nicad dewalt 1/2" with brand new batteries that wont touch the lug nuts on my truck....rather disappointed in it bc it was a christmas present. At least i didnt have to pay for it i reckon.

laid down the backer board in my kitchen with my black and decker 20v. never recharged. Hell, i forget where my charger is a lot of the time. Thing sits on the shelf, comes down for a project or two and goes back up. The only time it really sucks the juice out of the battery when im drilling holes. But then again, i'd rather use a 120v corded drill for that.

I have the 4.0 brushless impact and drill set from milwaukee and i can torque my f250 lug nuts to spec then turn around and loosen them with the 18v impact driver.

stopped by home depot just to take a look, the shelf space for the Milwaukee fuel combo was empty, guess that speaks well for them. There plenty of the other brands still available.

I need to give my Porter Cable 20V impact a thorough testing....I'm curious to see how the battery life is.

just hold down the trigger while you're searching craigslist on my dollar :usa: let me know what kind of results you get
