DeWalt batteries?

I just bought 3 new batteries for my old 18v xrp stuff and want to know whats the proper way to extend life of battery. Ive heard to fully discharge before charging and ive heard not to let go dead. Any experienced feedback would be great. thx
 
From what I was told at the DeWalt place on Capital don't just let Ni-Cad battery's sit on the charger for days on end, eventually that takes time away from them. That being said I have 4 sitting on a charger out in my shed 24 hours a day 7 days a week for the last 6 years and I haven't had an issue with them. The ones that sit on the shelf that hadn't been charged in months quit taking a charge last time I tried to use them.
 
Did you find a good price on them somewhere? I have one that I dropped from 14ft straight on concrete last weekend (4 times actually), and it still works. The first time the clips got squeezed, and it slipped out. The next 3 times, it fell out because the clips were busted, haha!
 
My Brother has a friend, that takes the case apart, & installs new rechargeable batteries, for about 25-30% of cost of new battery.
He buys them by the case, somewhere. Guess you need to be good at soldering! He's done 2 Black & Decker 18V, for me.
 
I just went to Lowe's and got a great deal on a 18V Dewalt drill,18V Dewalt impact driver, 2 batterys and a charger for $159. I thought that was a better deal then $99 for two batterys and I can always use extra drills to hand out to my guys.

i got 2 at lowes for 99, and i bought a new one off craigslist for 25:rockon:
 
Man I'd love to find some new 14.4V Milwaukees for a fair price to replace the ones I have that don't take a charge anymore... ;)
 
Doesn't really help you if you already have drills, but if you're in the market for one look at the Rigid brand ones at Home Depot. No matter what brand you buy you know that the batteries are eventually going to wear out. Rigid has a life time warranty on all parts, including the batteries. I used to have a Dewalt that I had a pile of bad batteries for, and it was actually cheaper to buy the Rigid than it was to buy replacement batteries for the Dewalt. That was like five years ago, and I have since had the batteries replaced under the warranty with no problems. That, and I really like the tools themselves too.
