Did I see Air Force 1 over nc yesterday

We were out in the pool yesterday and someone yelled "Look up!

I look up and saw a very large plane flanked by 3 or for fighter jets in close formation.

As I focused in, the same kid yelled " WOW! Another one"
Just a couple Inches to the right, and down a half inch( measurements from the ground) was another large plane and 3 or 4 jets with it also. From the ground, the second set of planes looked identical to the first set. They were not flying as high as most commercial planes that fly over, but not as low as the small planes either

I couldn't get a picture due to clouds and trees, but we all seen them just fine.
I dont know, but I assume this was Air Force 1 along with a decoy air force 1.

6 or 8 jets total.

What say ye?
 
He was in South Dakota Friday and in DC for the fireworks, etc. Saturday. I wouldn’t think the flight path would take him over NC between the two but that’s just a guess.
I saw this quote as well which may be part of what you saw?

I get the fact that, in some places there were flyovers for the 4th. Its Just hard to imagine seeing two jumbo airliners ,each closely flanked by military jets and it not be the POTUS

like, who has that kind of coin and recources?

I could see the planes well enough. Even though you didnt mention C130's or the like, I could tell They were 747 ish. To be honest, they looked like air force 1, even though I could not see the markings from the ground.
I could be well wrong, but I'd expect c130s to haul "toys"
 
Likely a c17 doing something cool for the 4th instead of a 747 being escorted. Download flight aware or Flightradar so next time you'll know. I've seen af1 3 times now at different airports and never had jets following.
 
Airforce II? Exercise? Pre RNC that isn't gonna happen?

I wish there was a way of knowing for sure because it was a cool sight. Even cooler if I knew for certain it was AF 1 and 2 regardless of which potus was onboard, or not.
 
Evidently you were the only one who saw it, so it can be whatever you say it is...:D
 
Russians being “escorted” back the eff off the coast. Lol

I saw AF1 when I lived near Charleston once. Unmistakable and cool to see. No escort that I could see either. At least not close.

It could have been either. About a year or so ago I was out in the field and stopped to grab some water and was sitting on the tailgate of the truck and saw a similar formation. Grabbed the binos and could make out the blue/white scheme of AF 1/2 and it had two fighters flanking it. It was a pretty awesome sight.

My gut tells me it was both AF1 and 2.

I'm not the only one who saw it . Probably 10 of us all saw both sets of planes. It seemed kinda surreal in a way. Very majestic looking, even before my brain switched to AF1 mode..and just then, the identical second set of planes appeared.

I think you're right. They came over Maiden also. I have pictures somewhere I'll dig up
 
I’ve seen AF1 twice. Once on tarmac at RDU when I came in on a commercial flight. We taxied right past it. Really sparkled. The other time it was on approach to GSO and crossed in front of us driving on I40 as we passed the airport area. Was low so unmistakable. That time I believe it was just training. The first was Obama was in chapel hill campaigning as I recall. Oddly both sightings were within 2 weeks of each other.

for security reasons, you almost never see AF1 and 2 in the air together. They take off together and head different directions.

ive seen them both together taking off from Offut.


curious what it was though. if was AF1&2 what circumstances would have brought them over your head together.
 
second thought....

flying from Florida to DC...there isnt much room to send planes in different directions.
 
If the escorts weren't with it, I might say that they were down at GSO practicing touch and go's and GTFO of dodge maneuvers. they are usually there a couple times a year practicing.

These planes were headed pretty much south, with maybe a touch of west thrown in.
 
The Marine's were part of the July 4th fly overs. maybe they stayed over night some where up north and caught an escort mission back south to Cherry point?

My imagination has them secretly flying from DC to Mar A lago.. With it being a heightened security weekend, especially the 4th, they brought the decoy plane also:D
