any one done a diesel engine swap in a jeep? just thinking it would be cool and have great low end torque. going to be building a yj soon and trying to decide on a v8 or something different. got any ideas???

Not too many here. I'll tell you the same thing tech support tells me. When you get it figured out let us know! It's a good Idea. I think Blkvoodoo on here is going to put a toyota forklift diesel motor in a 4 runner. Not sure where you'd get the motor other than that.

What about the Diesel from the jeep liberty?
Find a wrecked one and transplant it.

I have been thinking about putting a cummings 4bt or 6bt in a Grand Wagoneer

Burnsville Offroad in Burnsville, MN has done it. Might want to check with them for some tips. I wanted to that this summer when I put some speedholes in my 4.0 but Ridgerunner's 4.0 changed my checkbook's mind on that.

the liberty diesel woudl be an awesome swap... haven't seen that yet but i'm sure it's mainly because us yj owners are cheap/poor.... $9800 from the dealer :(

check JU and JF... both have had a few recent threads about disel swaps... there is one guy with a mercedes diesel swap, and another with a 4bt or whatever it's called...

here's a link

I have a buddy that put one in a CJ. You talk about awesome. He actually built it for someone else. He had it at bloomsburg too if anyone went there. I wish I had some pics of it. It was a show vehicle when it was all done. Had some coil over shocks and all the bells and whistles. Maybe he will post up in here.

wow, thanks for all the info. i like the idea of a ups truck motor and tranny. i have bought used trucks from ups before and got GREAT deals from them. just an example: 1991 gmc topkick with 140000mi. with cat. diesel, allison trans. and runs perfect for 2700.00 and it wasn't even wrecked. i bet i can talk to my buddy at ups and get a wrecked local delivery truck for almost nothing. thanks guys, i'll let you know how it goes.

I did the 4BT into a YJ, CJ look alike. I do have some frito trucks for sale yet. If you would like details, dont hessitate to call me. (910-326-2881, Bob.

ok, i'll give you a call soon. i'll wait until after the hollidays. how much are we talking about? can i get an adapter to run a xfer case on the tranny? are any of them autos?

there was an article in one of the previous "Diesel Power" magazines about a guy who put a 4bt/turbo 400 in a YJ.... barely fit, and had problems breaking drivetrain parts, but it was sweet...

yea, if i had that kind of money, i'd put a viper v10 in there or something.

lol ... i got 2 grand in mine . 4bt from a merita bread truck .. and u can wire it with your eyes closed. most of these trucks had a 400 turbo or a t19 tranny. ive got the adapters for both and both trannies. with a little tuning ive got 200+ hp and killer torque

cool, if i get one i'll see if you have the adapter i need. how much are they?

In a nutshell, I used a frito 4bt, th350 trans, and a 205 t-case. I did take the 350 out, and tryed a 700r4, but didnt like it with the diesel, so I changed it back. These things are super simple to deal with, no cooling issues at all. Just very heavy.

yea, i'm going to look into a wrecked truck and see what i can get cheap. thanks
