disapearing car door?

As long as the doors are on my DD, this would make parking QUITE a bit easier.. Though there's no way in hell they could put it on a sports car without killing ground clearance.
 
who wants to be bleeding out inside while the rescue squad tries to figure out where to cut?

Those cars are also engineered to use be that way, and have things like rollbars and reinforcement in other parts of the frame. This is a retrofit, right?

Don't get me wrong - thsi is cool, and I wouldn't heistate to do it to my car if it were an option. I hope the idea catches on. It's not like we don't do things to our trucks that have even more questionable safety side effects than this.

I do hope it's designed to work in lack of electric power though. Imagine your battery dying and getting stuck in there!... or as mentioned having an emergency and having to get yenked out fast.

I like things like this b/c it shows good out-of-the-box thinking.
 
i think they were talking about the Mark VIII specifically when they talked about removing the B pillar, and if youve ever seen a B pillar in a Mark VIII you wouldnt be counting on it to save your life anway. If you notice later in the video, the silver car still had its B-pillar.

As for the ground clearance, from my understanding of that video they are engineered with little to no ground clearance....still scratching my head on that one though.
 
just imagine when it is raining hard and you have to wait for the window to roll down then the whole door dissapears and the interior is covered in water.

It was great to have a door like that when installing the kid's car seat. That might seem like a small thing to non-parents but kids use those hard to install seats for 4-5 years. If you have multiple kids that's a long time to fight with those darn things.

The rainy day thing was a good point. It does look like a wetter solution than normal doors but overall I like it. I wonder if they can be reliable? A bad door is a big problem.
 
That's some strong stuff if the jaws of life won't cut it!
