Disposing of tires/scrap metal - Hickory

howdy y'all...in cleaning up my wife's grandfather's farm where we're living, I've found about 40+ old tires, some probably 50 years old and pretty crusty. The dump will take 5 at a time, but it's an hour away, and that's a lot of little trips. Anybody know of a better place to take them? Ideally free, as that's a lot of disposal fees to pay...
Also, I realize it's kinda funny to be asking about getting rid of scrap metal in Hickory with that other thread right now, but there's a ton of rusty 55 gallon drums, a swing set, buckets of rusty bolts, 4 or 5 engines, a truck frame, and the list goes on and on, that we need to get rid of...and ideally make a few bucks on if possible. No platinum or anything fancy, but there's also 4 or 5 radiators and some old copper tubing also...
Any places close by to take that stuff?
Thanks.

Tires - Prolly have to do the 5 at a time or it will get spendy..

Metal - Make a deal with someone to come get it all (good and bad) and they can keep what ever its worth.

You could make some $ on the heavy stuff (blocks etc) but then you'd still be wasting your time moving the stuff no one else would want either. So make someone take all the 'junk' FIRST then come get the better stuff, or your likely to be still sitting on the other stuff in the end :)

barrels aren't the easies to get rid of. I would crush them and have them on the bottom of the pile when I took it all. The copper stuff will bring good money. CnL on 70 in Connelly Springs will take it and pay you for it too.

Tires, in Burke County no limit on how many you can take, as I have taken 25 at a time, but they can't have wheels on them.

Tires = bon fire :popcorn:

Of course it is?
It isn't?
Ok accidents happen...

I have tried to call C&L several times, but never get an answer...when are they open? Do you pretty much just drive in, get weighted, dump your stuff, weigh, and drive out & get paid?
Any idea the latest price for steel?
I also found now in the barn probably 30 or so milk crates full of crushed aluminum drink cans...

Spat, i can show you where the metal recycler in Hickory is. If you can get the stuff gathered up, we can drag it up on my trailer sometime.

Thanks - I'm sure there are about 5 or 6 trailer loads - I just re-discovered the "appliance room" in the barn - probably 4 or 5 washers, as many dryers, couple hot water heaters, and an old refrigerator...just to add to the other stuff...
I've already hauled several truckloads of trash to the convenienve center on 18...

There are some of the steel wire crates, and actually some old wooden milk crates...definitely old school...
of course, I figure I can sell the old steel qt oil cans for a buck or two to the hot rod/resto crowd, to display at the shows...
:)
