Ditch the rear sway bar?

I'm bored today and have my Jeep in my uncle's shop and I'm thinking about taking the rear sway bar off of my XJ. It's an '88 model and the rear doesn't seem to sag at all(surprisingly). Will removing the rear sway bar cause the springs to sag? When you remove the rear sway bar does it lift the Jeep up any? I know it won't be much but does it actually lift it any? I've heard it does. Will the Jeep flex a lot better?

BTW it's a stock suspension '88 XJ with the 4.0 and AW4 with trimmed fenders. It's sitting on 31" TSL's right now. Thanks for the help!

Removing the rear sway bar wont lift the Jeep any. it will ride better and will also flex better. On the road it might lean a little more side to side when going around corners but wont be a big deal.

One vote for removing it, I think you will be happy you did.

Ok sounds good, thanks! Do you know if it will make the rear springs sag any by removing the sway bar? I sure hope it won't.

It won't make the springs sag. The only thing a sway bar does is to try to transfer lean to the other side by picking up on the inboard tire and pushing down on the outboard tire. It doesn't support any weight when at rest. (vehicle sitting level)
