We went, we broke, we conquered, we endured, but in the end, we had a blast! We had carnage to include, drive shafts, batteries, link mounts, wollered out wheel stud holes, axles shafts, body damage, roll overs, over heating, brake lines, alternator ...just to name a few. Within out group we had representatives from The Big Dixie Boggers, Rock Corps 4X4, Carolina Trail Blazers, and the only lady driver from Carolina K5. We made out home in "the Pit"(name given from years past as the place where about any repair can be made) Day Rides, Night Rides, good cooking, and lots of camaraderie. No matter what the carnage, no matter what the day or night brought to us, everyone in attendance had fun, and I am sure, will be back!
Golden Mountain has a great venue and facility. From trails, to bath houses and restrooms it is one of the best out there. We all needed ice, it was there! We needed a 7/16's drill bit, the staff provided. We needed rocks, well,... even Ray Charles couldn't miss em!
The staff gathered our trash bags, watered down the main road, and helped when we needed it. SFWDA put on a great event. Clubs stood up to the challenge of providing meals, check in and tech. Trails had little to no blockages. I will say the folks that came and participated, were a very well equipped and prepared group. Kids had fun, both young and old! We even had a lost go pro on the trail, submitted a request, and the folks that found it stood up and got it back to us.
If you have never been to a Dixie Run, you are just plain missing it. Be there next year, or once again, Miss out!
Thanks to all who attended!
Carnage that I can remember:
replaced a drive shaft
broken 35 spline outer on a 60
broke off front out put on a Dana 20, sheared off distributor gear on an AMC 360
wollered out bolt holes on a 5.5" pattern wheel
lost pulley on a steering pump
another broke axle
lost go pro(was found)
lost high side of Taurus fan
over heated engine, lost fluid(forgot to turn on fans)
Broke Rockwell Axle
Another broke link bracket
side flop and unseated tire
Burned Alternator
Lost Battery power
Major body damage to a CJ
burned brake line
Broke link off frame, X 2
bent roll cage(duh)
I am sure there was more, just not coming to mind at the moment
