So I need a new liner in my pool and I've watched enough YouTube videos that I keep thinking I could do it. I've only had one estimate and it was $2600 excluding water (I have a hydrant and fire truck!). I believe I can do it myself for around $1000 but...

I have seen the aftermath of homeowner floor jobs and cringe, I don't want to be that guy. Plus if I screw up I have an expensive hole in the back yard. Anyone have any words of encouragement about how easy theirs went?

The pool is 18x36x10 in ground with fiberglass steps at one end.

I think you would be a great gardener..

If you try it, you MIGHT get by with $1000. But in all reality, it will likely cost you $3600. (1k to try, and 2600 to the pros).

So, if you go ahead and pay for it to be done for you, you then have $1000 to go out spend on truck parts, guns, whatever.

Good luck. I tried this logic on my wife. Once.

Damn, I was hoping someone would say how easy it was.

It's just a vinyl pool liner, right?

Yup, and I have a couple of good vacuum cleaners to suck it to the sides like the video and a firetruck to fill the pool. What more could I need?

Spray on bedliner! Back when I had my bedliner business I did a spray on liner in a baptismal pool in a Baptist church. Worked like a champ, died it light blue and all.

Of course, can't imagine it would be that cheap. Last forever though.

I'm just sitting here thinking... I worked for a pool company back when I was in school. And the guys that built the pools are the guys that you keep firing.

I say go for it.

I have a saying that "people dumber than me do it all the time". Has worked out well for me so far.

So he needs to re-hire those guys to do his pool?

Half wouldn't show up and the other half couldn't figure out which side of the pool to put the water in.

It's not about smarts, it's about experience.
As long as you don't puncture or tear it, it seems pretty straightforward.
However many things seem this way when you are contemplating them.

We did moms above ground, cant be that much difference but take ur time and get ALL wrinkles out and you will be good

Installing floors is pretty straight forward. Cover a 2 dimensional surface. It's amazing how hard some people can make it.

It's that extra dimension that makes it hard ya know. 1 dimensional surfaces are the bees knees.

Well guy #2 showed up today and checked the pool. He came highly recommended and as he measured we talked about mutual customers we had had in the past yadda yadda yadda. Then he mentioned he had a hardwood floor that needed refinishing!! I'll go look at it tomorrow and find out how much my trade will be worth. SCORE!
