A guy is selling a 98 stock wrangler he dosent have a title for it he offered me a 95 title with it. I have parts to fix it and drive it but If it looks too good to be true it probably is right?

what would a 95 title be good for?

the VIN on the 95 title is different than on the 98 TJ.

only reason i see the 95 title would be worth taking is if you are planning on making a strickly trail jeep and not driving it on the road.

sounds a little fishy.

?????

The only reason I considered it. would like a good start on a nwe build. and the price sounded faviorable. But spoke to him on the phone and he sounded like a young kid. Evasive/shady with the questions about the jeep. I will look at it tomorrow and find out for shure if it is hot. At that point I will just walk.

Ask him for the VIN number, and make it clear you will run it on CarFax. His response will tell you all you need to know.

vin number on which one? did he ever have it titled in his name? in va all he has to do is file for a lost title. or who ever was the last owner has to file for it and then transfer it to him then you if you wanna take it the legal way.

even though its an offroad rig. if it was stolen and u reported it when they checked the vin numbers you would be in more trouble than the person who stole it.

Late update

I fogot to update you guys.
I went to his house. He came down the street with it on a trailer. He told me that his budys at Jacksonville 4x4 kept it because a kid who got kicked out of the Marines couldnt pay for a repair. His buddy took it from their shop and striped the Atlis 2, drivlines and radiator. He confirmed their was a lein holder on it and he would sell it to me for $800 bucks. I walked away. Later that day He called me offering it for $500. Then again for $400 and so on. Sorry for the late update.

400eh...worth that in parts

The shop should have put a Lien against the title themselves and after so many days it could be thiers legally. Have him meet you at your local Theft Task Force office. They will run the VIN to verify it is not stolen. You could apply for a title is it is legal.

It sounded to me that the owner looking for it. The shop guys wanted to keep some free parts and ditch it through their friend. That is exactly how he maped it to his possession. it was absolutly stolen either way I didnt have anything to do with it.
