I just got done unloading one of my rockwells off the bed of my truck. I don't have a front end loader, bobcat, tractor, or any type of self powered equipment.

Hell I don't even have a tree I could back under to use a branch as a hoist. I used my bronco, a 2" rachet strap, a floor jack, and a hi-lift jack to get it done.

I drug one end of the rear axle far enough off the tailgate to get a tire mounted on it. Had to jack the tire up with the floor jack to get it at the right height. 44" tsl's are heavy. Then I drug it farther, and used the floor jack to jack the other end, and put the next tire on in the bed of the truck.

Then I used the hi-lift on the ground to raise the differential off the bed of the truck, and rachet strap (hooked to the bronco) to drag the axle nearly completely off the truck.

Then I pulled the bronco forward to drag it the rest of the way. Now I've got one axle, with tires mounted, in the garage, with 2" on each side to spare coming through the door. Front still on the truck.

Cliffs -

1) I was completely unprepared to buy such heavy axles.
2) I'm tired.
3) Anyone free tomorrow?

I was busy working in the shop....I told you to give me a call when you needed a hand.

Does anyone around you have a tractor? I would leave it in the damn truck till I found some nonhuman means of extracting it. Hell man get a cherry picker. Just make sure to use the debit card that your wife doesn't know about:flipoff2:

I feel ya on the heavy stuff and only one person to move it. I've found out that the cherry picker is my best friend. It's how I load and unload my heavy stuff. Effortless unloading of my D50 front and Sterling rear, and loaded the radius arm D44 complete with no troubles. Best investment there is for a one man shop.

he had said something about meeting you to buy seat belts...idk maybe trade out labor.
Yeah that's tomorrow evening. I'll probably just get the front off in the same fashion as I did the rear, except put the tires on in the opposite order so the one hanging off the tailgate doesn't drag the ground. That made the rear axle want to rotate, and "crawl" the side of my truck bed. :shaking:

Well I got it off, I put the tire on in the bed first, and it made it much easier to drag the axle out without the tire hanging off the bed dragging the ground.

Now 've got a steering rockwell with one tire on it laying on the ground, and no good way to jack up the other side to put the 2nd tire on. But at least I can drive my truck. :D

Damn rockwells...whose idea was this? :handed:

Throw a BBQ get-together, and let everyone know that the first order of business is to get the axles into your garage.. after that, it's party time.

Worked for me!
