Right now youth ATVs and dirtbikes can no longer be sold because of new Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act lead restrictions.

Tell your Members of Congress that children do not eat, lick or mouth ATV or OHM parts. ATVs and OHMs should be granted an exclusion because the lead-containing components pose no risk of causing an increase in blood lead levels in children.

Congress even included a common-sense exclusion from the new lead restrictions. Ask your Members of Congress to urge the Consumer Product Safety Commission to grant the request for this common-sense exclusion as allowed by law.

Wouldn't it already be covered undert he common sense exclusion?
E.g. it's dosn't make common sense to think someone owuld eat an ATV?

Just to play devil's advocate, here's a question.
Ever seen an ATV w/ metal fenders that were rusting, and/or had flaking paint? I know I have. Couldn't, in theory, that flaking metal rub off on one's hand, or clothes, legs, arms, whatever, while using the machine? What if one were to, say, then take a lunch break out in the woods like we all do, get out a sandwhich, and scarf it down? Come on, nobody always washes everything thoroughly before eating.
I mean the whole thing is stupid, but I can still see how one might argue that there is still the possibility, however remote and off-chance, of ingesting some of it.

Personally I say, let the lead stay and let people keep ingesting it. We have to keep evolution rolling.

atvs give me indigestion.

hey dave...are they still making things out of metal? every where i look i see plastic.

This has been stayed until 2/2010. You can still buy parts and youth atv's. Trust me, I just bought one today. And to answer the question, I try not to eat the paint.

You can't protect everyone from everything.

Why not take the fat kids away from the moms that let them eat shitty food and get 300lbs before they are 10 years old? Child endangerment! Where's the child protection for that??

Anyway, this shit pisses me off. Where is the parent's responsibility/accountability at and why should manufacturers of ATVs, etc. suffer because of idiots??
