If a mod wants to move this that's fine by me... didn't know where to put it.

I'm about to buy a truck and cannot decide what to get.. I'm curious as to what MPG the 2500 4dr 4WD is getting? City/Hwy/AVG... and if there's anything you can easily do to improve it.

Anyone?

Oh yeah... I'm looking used probably 2004-2008... what to look for? what to stay away from? How long are these trucks lasting? Major maintenance issues? Help a brotha out

I had an 04 2500 with the 305hp/555tq and 6-speed. I was averaging 19-20mpg of mostly country backroads and in town driving.

My 05 with 325/610 and the 48re gets 15-17mpg. No major mechanical problems with either. Both had 3.73 gears and 285/70 ATs with corrected speedo.

Mid-year 2007 was the introduction of the 6.7 Cummins and the associated emissions equipment that people either seem to have zero problems with, or they end up wanting to burn the truck down. The old standard 5.9 is the safer bet.

My 2001 Ram 2500 with 5spd gets 15mpg during a mix of town and country driving.

My 01 2wd gets close to 20 with a light foot

our company 96 with 5.9 auto 285-16 tire and 400000 miles and still going strong gets 18-20 mpg my 2000 f350 7.3 only get 14 on the hwy. so i say stay with something with 5.9
