I am looking to go with full width axles on my xj. Has anyone tried the axles from a late model dodge ram 1500/2500? The reason I am considering is the fact that they already have the control arm mounts and spring perches and other than using custom control arms I think they would be a pretty good fit.
With these axles having the vaccum disconnect I figured they would be more plentifull in the junkyard and a cheaper aproach to the standard d44/d60.
Let me know what you think...post some pick if you have done this before.

Might need to measure the distance on those mounts to see if they are even compatible. Might even check on www.naxja.org to see what they think. I would have to assume they aren't good since no one usees them. No real input just thinking out loud. I am sure someone on here knows what's up with those axles.

con 1: vaccum disconect
con 2: non servicable wheel bearings...new ones for a dana 60 are gonna run you about 250.00 a piece if you find a 'deal'...
con 3: ball joints on these things...well...suck...
con 4: vaccum disconect...hangs down pretty good...I bent it on my dodge...and I don't wheel that truck...

I'm a bit biased though...I've been hating my dodge 60 under my truck for a while now...

the vacuum disco is easily removed with a 1 piece shaft.

still, not the best option for an axle swap. you'd still have to redo the mounts due to the width, etc...

Well all of the problems stated above can be fixed one way or another, by adding the 1 piece shaft, and changing the outers to standard type bearings, but all the work would be a waste, when u could just buy a whole useable axle for alot cheaper.... and the coil buckets/CA mounts are most liekly too wide anyways
