I have a 05 3500 with a cummins that has 127k miles on it. I left yesterday morning going to work and it quit on me. Checked to make sure it was getting fuel. Had to call a wrecker to come pull it to my deisel mechanic. We put it on a computer last night and it showed no rpms. I was told that it could be a crank sensor that was not reading the rpms and would not let it fire, but this was only a guess. I do not want to start throwing parts at it without knowing what is wrong!! Has anyone had the same problems??

crank sensor is what it sounds like to me. had this happen at the shop before and the new sensor fixed em right up.

I second crank sensor but before you start throwing parts at it, cycle your ignition switch 3 times fast, on the last cycle, leave it on, and the check engine codes will come up on your odometer. If there are no codes present it will show a series of dashes. This might save you from having to pay to have it plugged up to an OBD scanner.

If you have no rpm signal it is the the crank sensor, the wiring to it, the wiring from it, or the computer. you can ohm the sensor out and check for power and ground to be sure.

If it's a two wire crank sensor the quickest thing to do it hook a meter up between the two wires, spin the motor over and see if you're getting an AC volt reading from it. The reading will be small, but if you get anything out of it, the sensor is probably fine, if not new sensor time.

I already tried the odometer trick, but nothing came up. I was told from the parts dept. at the local dodge dealer that there was 2 crank sensors and 2 cam sensors. I found the sensor at the balancer in the front, but any ideas where I can find the other?? I'll take my meter over there in the morning and try to check volts/ohms. Thanks for the input!!
