Stalled, engine crank/no start, electric fan on with KOEO

Found: ASD fuse blown

Truck running fine, then nothing. ASD powers ignition coil, Oxygen sensors (heaters?), injectors, ECM, and Generator.

Checked all connections, no loose/corroded terminals. Check short to ground with all components less ECM and O2s connected (reoccurring code, suspected issue) no short. Plug in ECM, fire and run.

Attempt to drive, move 8-10 feet, stalls, cooling fan on, crank/no start returns.

Vehicle ran 3 minutes prior to moving. Failure seems load related. Obviously can not start without coil or injectors. Could generator have failed in such a way as to cause this, or should I focus on the coil or injectors?

Possible, not terribly likely. You could disconnect it and see.. I think your wiring harness has a short though, possibly improper routing on the o2 wire hitting the manifold? Look over the harness really closely for bare places, especially places where it would chafe.

The fan shouldn't be running unless AC is on or the motor above 217 or so...

The fan is probably related to the ECM not being powered properly, either as a failsafe or just because the ECM isn't driving it to it's proper initial state when the fan relay gets powered.

I did a quick Google search for "dodge dakota asd fuse" and it seems like the O2 sensor harness melting is a common cause, as is a shorted/failed crank position sensor.

If that's a 1996, have you tried reading codes with an OBD2 scanner?

I figured that was the reason for the fan, but needed some other input before I wrote it off as such.

Found thing about o2 harness, found no issues. Haven't found anything about crank sensor yet, seems unlikely as it ran, but I suppose still possible.

Have not checked codes as it didn't run long enough after battery installation (forgot to mention it's been batteryless for months) and wouldn't have set any codes.

My current thoughts are to disconnect the alternator again to see if that us the culprit.

Yep. Ignorant me. It may still read out though. They retained the functionality on some but not others. Some read out on the odometer but only if the code is below P1000. I'd look over the o2 harness really well where it is close the exhaust.. alt is a good second bet. I can send you a diagram of what's on that fuse if you like.
