It's time fer a new "family" vehicle.
The wife wants room and seating, I want towing capacity. (At least enuff to flat tow a zook)
A lifted geared Sami goes real slow up to Mtn. City....and it's a long ride to the beach at 65 mph.

She saw A Durango and really likes it, I'm not really particular. So what have ya'll heard about the Durango. We will be looking at 2000-2005. ( or so )

I had one and loved it, wife liked it too. The flip up thrid seat was nice. It will NOT carry a 4' wide sheet of ply or sheetrock. My engine blew up at 92k miles due to a failed oil pump(first replaced under warrenty, and replaced a total of 3 times) Never wheeled it.

I had a 99 durango with the 5.9 and it pulled great. I pulled a 16' trailer with jeeps all the time. only problem was with the abs wheel sensors, but easily replaceable. oh yeah, and the mpg!

my wife's parents have an 04 with the hemi, they use it to tow thier camper. her dad says it pull really well. the third row seat is pretty cool but its a pain to get out of. they did have to get the gauge cluster replaced but i cant remember why.

id get one with the hemi over the 360... ~same mileage, but alot more power...

a friend has a hemi one and pulls a 35ft camper... he regeared it deeper to have more grunt pulling the hills with bigger tires

seems like I remember a lot of tranny problems on thee 00-03 ones?

I posted this on another bbs and keep hearing about front end trouble ( ball joints ) and tranny trouble ( computer related)

Matt

My brother has a 98-99 model. It gets crappy gas mileage and the tranny is slipping. The new ones may be better, but I wouldn't by one in this year model range.

I know the newer ones like the 00's and to 03 i think it was had the Balljoint problem. but i do believe that they should have been fixed under a recall i think(someone correct me if im wrong).
The Durangos are nice mom's got a 05 with the 4.7 and it gets pretty good mileage on the highway, aint never towed with it however.

Well, this thread would steer me away from one. Three engines, tranny problems, front end problems and after having replace the evaporator on one myself (which seems to be a normal problem as well), I'd, uh, look elsewhere.

Had a 2000 model, was ok as far as room depending how many kids you have. But the mileage really sucked for the size if the vehicle. No issues though with the vehicle
PS.. Make you a good deal on a 2003 Excursion if you are looking for something bigger.

So....ya'll thoughts on Yugo's?

Matt

And they come in six packs! When the current one breaks, you just pop the top on a new one!
