Was wondering if anyone has one of these beast. Looks like a long truck even with the short bed. I was looking and seen there were spots for 3 car seats in the back. With me having a 3 going on 4 year old and almost 2 year old triplets this might be the truck for me.

It's only 6 inches longer than a quad cab. However, that 6 inches makes a big difference. In the regular quad cab, there's room for 3 car seats as well. However, the mega cab is a much more comfortable ride for rear passengers.

i believe its longer than that. its the same chassis as a quad cab long bed. the long bed is eight feet long. the megacab has a six and a half foot bed. the cab is 18 inches longer

Man I'm only 5'10" but I got in the back of a mega Cab and the salesman got in the front and slid his seat all the way back and I leaned my seat back and my knees still didn't touch the back of his seat. Thats right the rear seats recline and have storage behind them just like in a regular cab pickup. That's why I sold my truck so I can eventually get a mega cab.

I rode in one of these recently, in the front and back, and gotta tell you, its totally worth it... the rear seats even recline, I could not have been more comfortable, even had the tv on in the back. If I had the coin, I would have one in a second... forget camping, Ill just lay back the seat.

Heres my Mega beast on our way out to Moab. I love that big ass cab. There is a full long bed mega cab in High Point over on Business 85. He owns the slide in camper store there. That is a long vehicle. He said he had it cut then lenghtened to fit the long bed.

There is room for three car seats but then there's no room for the front seats. My 3yr old sits behind the passenger seat in my quad and the front seat is slid almost all the way up which is very uncomfortable. I could never drive w/ him behind me. I wish they made a long bed mega cab w/ a 5.9. I'd be all over that.

6" makes all the difference!

snicker snicker

6.5' bed will suck at times though

But holy crap how long is a mega cab long bed? I can't imagine it'd fit in any normal garage.

You guys must care more for your rear seat passengers than I do. If it's uncomfortable, there's an 8' bed right behind you, complainer. :flipoff2:

Some of us have kids we like taking with us and we do care if they are comfortable. Because if the kids aren't comfortable then no one is comfortable on long trips.

I've spent entire days in the back seat of a quad cab and never felt cramped. I'm 6'-0" and 180#. Kermit's 6'-2" and I've never heard him complain.

I think the mega cabs are all right, but I'm not sure about gaining an extra FOOT of leg room at the expense of a long bed. If all that foot box is good for anything, it's filling it up full of stuff and making a place for the dogs to lay.

I think the truth of the matter is that Dodge's marketing folks thought they were getting screwed b/c people looked at the Ram's "one cab fits all" approach and thought the back seat was too small. So they rummaged around in the parts bin, found a QC long box frame and a short bed, and then filled whatever space was left over with new cab parts.

As for the kids, that's why they're short... so you can fit them anywhere. I spent the better part of my childhood riding around in the back seat of a Camaro. I don't want to hear about how you don't have enough leg room.

1) not all of us need an 8 foot bed. If you have a work truck and need that much bed then good deal.

2) im 6' 1" 290 pounds and yes the rear seat does have a good amount of room on the reg quad cab but the extra room to put babies in there car seats is nice also. And the mega cab is the only one with tie downs for 3 car seats in the back.

There's always a sacrifice. In this case, sacrifice the extra leg room, or the extra bed room. I sacrificed the leg room. I made do with the quad cab short bed for several years. I kept running into situations where I needed just a few more feet. I never had a situation where someone complained about the rear seat not having enough room. All my rear passengers said no when I asked if I needed to scoot up. And I've run 2 cars seats and a booster seat at one time in it. Still not complaints. But I do not have my own kids. :D So "I" opted for the long bed because it fit my needs. Get what works for you. If you don't need the bed room, then by all means get the damn creature comforts! I opted for laramie package with wood grain. :)

Gotta ask, do yall use group buy or something?

I've got a 2001 Ram quad cab, and I HAVE to put the rear facing car seat for my four month old in the middle. A rear facing car seat takes up ALOT of room. If I put it behind my seat, I would not be able to get in the truck.

Ok i just wanted to make sure of my first post on the thread i created. There are already starting to be some attitudes.

I never asked for a comparison of the quad cab and mega cab. I have once before owned a quad cab and i wanted to hear from those that have owned mega cabs.

1) the mega cab has 3 sets of latch points for car seats

2) the bottom cushion on the mega cab seems to be wider from the back cushion to the front.

3) the doors are a lot wider to get in and out

4) with the extra room between the seat easier to get kids in the car seats.

LIKE I SAID I WAS ASKING FOR THE THOUGHTS OF THOSE THAT HAVE OWNED THESE BIG TRUCKS.

I am very happy that you have choosen the truck you drive and are very happy with it.

Yeah, I know... I'm just fawking around.

But it does sound like your mind is already made up. :flipoff2:

Re-read both of those posts. Now ask yourself what it is you're wanting to know about these "BIG" trucks. Then let us know what you want to know, because I have no clue. Therefore I, and others, stated our opinions about the mega cab and it's competitor, the quad/crew cab. I haven't seen any attitudes.....well until now. I saw plenty of opinions, pros/cons, etc.

After your second post above, the only other thing I could imagine you have questions about is the drive-ability with it being a long truck. You've owned a quad cab. Was it a long bed or short bed? Obviously, this truck is longer than a quad cab short bed. It's gonna drive different and require more room to turn it.

Since you alluded to the mega cab being a long truck. Let's compare mega cab and crew cab 8' bed wheel bases, overall length and turning diameter to get an idea of how each truck drives. In 2011, they now have Crew Cabs instead of quad cabs. You didn't specify new or used so I'm going with 2011 since the stats are easy to find.

2011 Mega Cab 2500 4x4 6'4" bed
Wheelbase: 160"
Overall Length: 209.0"
Turning Diameter L: 46.9'
Turning Diameter R: 46.9'

2011 Crew Cab 2500 4x4 8' bed
Wheelbase: 168.9"
Overall Length: 209.0"
Turning Diameter L: 49.2'
Turning Diameter R: 49.2'

Truck is the same overall length, but the 8' bed crew cab has an 8.9" longer wheelbase and you need 2.3" more inches to swing a u-turn. Not a whole lot of difference there.

So since they are about the same length and will drive about the same you should only be asking about how comfortable the extra room is.

It sounds to me like you have already made up your mind and just want someone to help you say yes to this truck. Positive affirmation or something? So yes, the mega cab is a fantastic truck and the extra room is phenomenal! If you don't need an 8' bed this IS the truck to go for!

Maybe I'm wrong? Maybe it's not exactly what you want and you were looking for negative comments on the room in the truck? Have you looked at the Fords? Those things have always had tons of room in the rear. In my opinion, you won't find a more comfy interior than a Ford.

LOL Thats funny right there! You might think so but they were all purchased separatly. There is a quad cab on the other side of the second mega cab that you can't see.
I never would have imagined cab type would produce such a discussion. My reasons for owning the mega cab,: I have never needed a long bed and if I did then I would hook up one of the trailers to go get whatever. I travel everywhere with the family in this truck so for me cab comfort is more important than bed size. And the guys who said the quad seats are fine for them as big as their size is, they are exagerating. Not trying to start rock throwing but I'm 6'2" and have ridden in both of those Ram Quads back seats in the pic. and was not comfortable. It was tolerable but needed more leg room. Could I survive a run to the mountains or beach back there? Sure, but I wouldn't want to.
I hope I never end up in a situation where I have to down size my truck 'cause I sure would miss it
