I'm going to go look at a 1997 Dodge Ram 3500 Pickup Club Cab Long Bed Diesel Dually. It has 214,000 miles on it. What should I know about this vehicle? What are the known problems? How much should it be worth? Thanks

2 or 4 wheel drive? 4 wheel drive has a lot that can wear out....trac bar is probably the most common.
Auto or Stick? The autos have a rep for being junk in those trucks.
Does it have any power mods? The existence of EGT/boost/trans temp gauge would be a good sign yes. Also if the tamper proof screw is gone on the AFC it probably has been modded.
Is it lifted?
Has it been used to tow a lot? Having a gooseneck hitch for example would be a good indication yes.

Just like any older high mileage truck, the front end's wear out (ball joints, tie rod ends, u joints)

It has the 12v motor tho, so you are good to go if its been maintained.

The A/c condensors leak behind the dash, you have to remove entire dash to change,

All full size pickups have auto transmission problems, so expect that even its a ford or chevy.

Just check it out

No mods. I don't know if it is an auto or stick yet. I'm hopeing for a stick. It is a local plumbing business truck. Mainly used to carry pipe.

Ask the owner if the "Killer Dowel Pin" or "KDP" has been fixed.

to quote dodgeram.org

Oil Leak at timing case, loud engine noise, engine miss, and (rarely) sudden stall - All engines built before March 1998: Assembly pin in timing case can fall into the timing gears. The pin bangs around inside the case until caught by a gear and thrown through the case. This can also damage the gears, camshaft, injector pump, or vacuum pump. This is a known problem that occurs infrequently. The simplest way to prevent this is to block the pin with a tab or bolt.

Plan on a converter and AT THE very least a Valve body upgrade. The auto's aren't junk but they won't stand up to a turned up diesel motor without mods and proper service. I was wishing I got a stick till I did a triple disc converter and VB upgrade, made it a whole new truck and really woke it up on the road and the dyno.
