inherited my granpas truck, 2000 dodge dakota, 2wd, automatic, 3.9 v6. has 68k on it. he drove it very easy. so just going thru everything, and maintenance manual says every 37k you have to adjust the shift bands in the transmission. ok, this is new to me, dont have to worry about that with my wrangler. so how important is this, it has never been done. any advice would be good. thanks.

i think it is important. if they are too loose. this can cause them to get cocked on the drum and burn up. on the flip side you don't want 'em too tight either, otherwise they can burn up.

one adjuster is external, the other is accessed after dropping the pan. either way to check both bands you will need to drop the pan. might as well change the fluid and filter when this is checked.

i would have a reputable transmission shop check this. they should be experienced with how tight these should be and let you know if any adjustment is needed.
