If you like it, who cares what others think?
I mean, it's your bike right? Unless it's pink or something?

It's a stigma the sportsters just can't seem to live down. Power to weight, the sportsters have most of it's 'bigtwin' brothers beat, and the sportsters handle great. I love the looks of them, plus the 03 is an anniversary year model, and the last 1200 to be a rigid mounted engine the way harleys were meant to be.

Unless your over 6' tall, get the bike, ride the piss out of it, and who the hell cares what others think. The original sportster was designed as a hotrod, hence the name.
. FWIW, I see more sportsters on Ft. Bragg than any other vtwin, and that is a great price for that bike with those miles.

an '03 1200 custom for $4500??? sounds like a good deal to me. does it have a clean title history?

The sportys are good bikes, but they are widely considered to be the chicks harley. if you are wanting to ride with groups and travel in "harley" circles then wait and find a good deal on a big twin. The other people will likely snicker at you behind your back when riding a sportster.

Im not saying its right or fair, it just happens!

its sorta like driving Barbie's corvette. Its still a vette, it just pink!

harleys are for fags

I am guessing you ride a metric bike? Maybe even a Harley look a like, suzuki or something like it?

Import guys are always quick to slam the harley guys.

I have an 03 Sportster 1200 Custom (Silver and Black)

Granted I'm a girl but I've seen lots of men ride them too.

Men do fine on a Sportster if they are smaller in build
Tall guys and heavy guys look stupid on them

I started out on an '01 1200 Custom. I am 5'9" and 145 lbs. That thing was a blast to ride. Fit me great. Perfect 1st bike for me. The only reason I sold it was to move up to the V-Rod I have now.

So I went from riding a "girl's" bike to now riding a "fake Harley". I don't give a shit what people say. I love it!

I have a 69 XLCH and I love it. Lots of young people try to give me grief about it. Most people who really like to ride dont care, and most people who know what a real XLCH is love it.

harleys are for fags
the next time you see one of these fags you should walk right up to him and tell him what you think:popcorn:
I'll make it easier than that... Tell me where you want me to ride my Harley so you can say it to someone's face instead of over the WWW sissy boy !!! I have a good bit of bitter anger I need to release anyway

There is a write up on this very issue in the MArch 2010 HotBike magazine, pg 15.

ride what you like. if your buying a harley to be cool, impress others, and "fit in" DONT. If you ride with people who give you shit about it being a girls bike, find new people to ride with. a sporty is a good bike. lots of mods out there. also the 1200 is a very solid motor and it can be turned up pretty good. the 1200 is the same engine they use in the buell "sport" bikes.

Ride for you and because you enjoy it and fawk everyone else. riding is dangerous and if your doing it for the wrong reasons you wont be doing it long.

a lot of "harley guys" i know are fags or assholes or whatever. since it became a fashion statement to ride a harley seems every preppie sissy boy thinks he can buy a skull t shirt and a harley and be a biker. I have ridden my entire life (im 42) and nowaday i ride alone.
the whole harley as a status symbol is embarassing to me.

this guy hit the nail on the head.ride what you want and fuck the world if they dont like it. and the preppies, that's the ones that bought that new harley a new black t-shirt some harley boots a pair of blue geans, leather jacket,chaps,do-rag and join a hog chapter cause you get a patch to put on that jacket. i really should not be such a snob but for someone who has rode only harley's for 31 years it just kinda irritates me. but on the other hand nothing looks cooler than leather chaps when it's 90 degrees.

ill agree on the " status symbol" i sold my bike 2 years ago, 97 softail custom and lost my a$$ because of the "greedy ba$tards" motorcycle company. when i bought my bike there was a 2 year wait and harley had a meaning, now you see them on every street corner and can walk right in to a dealership and buy one. they flooded the market and killed the older bikes value, and the older bikes are what made harley the most sought after bikes in the world.

i ride a buell XB and have a 883 that i have chopped up. Both are fun and have their place. The sportster motor is easier to work on and more reliable in my opinion (if you actually plan on putting more the the usually 5K of bar to bar riding a Harley might get).

In the aftermarket world, big twins get chrome and LEd lights

Sportsters get flat black paint, hard tail swaps, street tracker swaps...etc...The sky has endless possibilities that are all fairly affordable when you get bored with the stock configuration.

But i am bias :)
