Ok so my brothers 1996 Jeep Cherokee developed a steering box leak which lead to the box becoming trashed.
So I found a used box since we are both in College and low on funds but I made sure it worked before I bought it.
On a side note before this incident his Jeep went into the shop for a water pump and oil change. The shop ended up breaking the power steering reservoir and convincing my dad to get a whole power steering pump.
Shortly after the shop added the pump his box started leaking and now thinking back on it I'm assuming the fresh pump was pushing so much pressure it blew a seal in the box.
Next I got the used steering box (not thinking that the new pump probably blew the old box) and put that on.
After adding the used box I bleed the system by taking the cap off the reservoir and turning the wheel back and forth while the jeep was on jack stands.
After doing so the Jeep still had very poor steering. After doing doing some research I learned that I should have undone the return line from the box to pump and bleed it that way so the air would be removed from the whole system.
I tried to bleed it this way today for no joke at least half an hour. Every turn of the wheel air came out of the return line as well as fluid. I flushed multiple multiple quarts of fluid through it and the air wouldn't stop coming out. So I got frustrated and put it back together and drove it feeling no change whatsoever in the steering.
Sorry for the long post but do I need a new Steering Box now because of the combination of new Pump and me not bleeding the system correctly?
Thanks
