Okay so my wife and I have two dogs, a fiest mix and an APBT. Now before anyone starts talkin bad about the breed....just dont, nuff said.
Our apbt is the youngest at 2.5 and Widget our fiest is close to 4. They are both rescues. When we first got oreo it took several days for us to get them aquainted and liking each other. After about a week and a half they became best friends. The sad part is the little fiest beats up on oreo.( we have had oreo for a little over a year now)
We live on property owned by my wifes grandmother and for some reason she wont let us put up a fence, so when we let them outside we put them on leads.
Every now and then our apbt somehow houdini's his way off the lead, goes and runs around the property and comes back. When he does this its almowt like a computer backup and he goes after widget like its the first time theyve ever met. And then its back to normal like nothing happened. He does act a little different for a day or so after this happens and his eyes stay really dialated.....but like i said the next day or so its completly normal.

Any ideas? I know theres several guys on here that are like self proclaimed dog whispers lol.

I was going to upload some pictures but it kept saying there was an error loading my files(phone)

he just sees it as a chance to re arrange the pecking order, he is free and the other isnt. tries to take advantage of it. fails to establish dominance...takes another day or two to settle back into the normal way of doing things.

dialated eyes could just be the adrenalin and excitement of being free. my dog's nervous system goes into freak out mode so bad when he gets free he has seizures.

Its sensory overload when he is off leash and then comes back. What about an underground fence? You can install it

I kind of figured it was something like that. I have thought about a dog fence in the past but not so sure i really trust them.

I have 2 dogs, been together for over 10 years, they have been in a couple fights for unknown reasons, no food around or toys, they just go to each others ass for some reason. Sounds to me that when he gets off the lead, its more of an over excitement/over stimulated reaction not an aggressive reaction. Its just the way it goes sometimes in a dogs world. I wouldnt be worried about it. APBT's are great dogs. I love them and have been working with them for the last 13 years. I have owned them, and deal with them on a daily basis. But as far as a fence, I have heard good things about the products below. I have known people who use them and they work good. No buried wire, easy set up. Just have to work hard on your end walking the dogs around the perimeter on a leash for a week or so, making sure they know where the perimeter is. Only bad thing about these, it doesnt keep things from coming into your yard. But hope this helps.
