I know its late notice, but I'm having trouble finding a pup for my son for Christmas. I would like a full bred dog. I like hunting and working class dogs. Medium to large breeds only. I really want a Plot Hound but all my intro-net searching has failed miserably. The only breed I'm definately not interested in is Lab and Pits. Been around both and have no issues with either just not interested in them. Would like not have to go out of state. Thanks

I could have swore there is a Plott breeder in your area. I'll do some diggin & let ya know if I find any info. You ought to check out Bob Plotts books if you haven't, GREAT reads!

That would be great.
I'm goin to call the local vets next and maybe a kennel. I really got my heart set on getting him a Plot, even if its a belated gift because none are mature or bred at this time. I just haven't been able to find anybody with these pups.

There used to be a guy who wheeled at Tellico often that bred/raised plots as his sole source of income...I wann say though he lived across the TN line....cant remmber the name of his kennel though but I remember a bad Cj on a K5 frame...

I got my plot hound out of the hickory Iwanna paper.

How old is your son? Maybe find a breeder that doesn't have any at the moment but give your son a book on training dogs, so he can get into it and then maybe help pick out the pup?

thanks for the help, i'll be checking those leads as well

The Plott Hound is the NC official dog breed, kinda like the pine tree is official tree and cardinal is official bird.

Thats where I saw it! I remember there were 2 supposed litters in that paper then. Those dogs have DEEP roots in the Lenoir/Richlands area.

I got lucky with mine, he sure as a good one.

how long have you had a plott, how do they do outside unattended. i'll run a buried fence but I've never liked kenneling a dog. i've heard they want to hunt and run larger game instintively. deer constantly antagonize a very large full german shepard. she stays put but sits right at the line and raises hell in the night. she was trained on the fence from a pup or else she'd bolt through.
