I'm going to be working in the western part of the state next week and I need to take my hounds with me. Anyone know of any dog friendly places to stay?

If all else fails, the AAA has a hotels book specifically for listing places that allow pets. It lists them by state. There are typically enough places that you can find a place to stay with your pet no matter when/where you stop in your travels.

When me and the wife travel with the dog, we always look up a Super 8. Not the fanciest of places, but the majority of them accomodate pets.

If its during the weekend, go to App. Find a frat house (the Hockey House is a good one, I ended up at a party there once, im pretty sure no one knew what was going on, but I dont really remember)

Anyways, find the said frat house, kick the kids out onto the lawn, and then sleep in a room with the dogs. Then leave in the morning (anytime before 3 should be okay, they wont wake up for a while :D )

Na seriously though, theres a really shoddy place outside of...Blowing Rock or Boone, not sure which one exactly, but they might take animals, but I would definatly use that as a last resort! Theres another motel called Mountain Outlook or something like that...you could try there..

dont know about boone, but here in raleigh, petsmart has a pethotel in the store. It is really nice, the kennels even have tvs, radios, and even astroturf. Its not that pricey either and their store hours are convenient for later pickups.
