Would it be a big problem to tow dolly a truck that has a spooled rear?
I'd think it'd make turns more difficult... but how much?

First off... wtf are you going to dolly it with, and how far?

Secondly, unless the answer to #2 is something with a curb weight of 15k or more, sounds like a bad idea. Dollys are fawking dangerous under the best of conditions.

FJ Cruiser  about 150 miles each way.

Full trailer + vehicle doesn't quite fit under the FJC towed weight limit.

(my rear E-locker motor doesn't work... so normally i just manually engage it before leaving home. Alternative is to do it when I get there.)

I logged about 2000 miles towing an XJ with a spool on a tow dolly behind a 97 2500 CTD. I couldn't really tell it was ever back there but . The only difficulties I ever experienced were maneuvering in tight spaces (ie gas stations or parking lots) as it really didn't like to make sharp turns. Once had it pop the straps loose and roll off the dolly.

That being said, I have no idea how difficult it is to manually engage an E-Locker, but if not too terribly inconvenient i would tow with it disengaged and engage upon arrival. If I were going to do any towing with an FJ cruiser i would give it every bit of help i could.

I can tell you from pushing my 3000 pound race car around in the garage with a spool, it takes a LOT more effort to turn it than with a ratchet or LSD.

I would say to put some old narrow tires on it and over inflate them to a reasonable level. It would reduce the contact patch and make it easier to turn.

Maybe that sounds stupid, but it would help.

Never had ne real problems towimg with a dolley....between me, bret ( marvilusone) and poppa jon weve logged a LOT of miles with tow dolleys....there were alot of those miles towing a welded cherokee on boggers too. Just be careful if you lock the brakes down, jon had his zj come over the front a foot or so one day. Definitly make sure all the bolts on the dolley are tight or it will sway when unloaded. We took an impact and tightened the hell out of everything and then put a second nut on it all and tightened those with the impact to just for insurance. Did i mention people stay away from you on the interstate when you have a dolley lol!
