I found a great deal on a belt sander on Craigslist. Contacted the guy yesterday, set up a meeting for this morning to pick it up. Fortunately, I called before going over, because he's suddenly decided it's worth more than what he was asking. Wouldn't tell me how much, but he was temporarily pulling it from the market. I know it's his stuff and his right, but if you list something at a price you're comfortable with, don't change your mind tomorrow. It leaves a bad taste in folks mouth.

It should be legal to high five that guy, to the face, with that belt sander...then shove it up his ass. That's an all time pet peeve of mine. Along with someone speeding up to pass you, just to slow down in front of you...should be legal to put them in the ditch as well.
 
I have had a few people back out on things in a similar way. I was trading my plasma cutter for some BFG krawlers and the guy backed out. I think once you have made a deal you should follow through with it. Be a man and step up.
 
I've listed things and sold them super quick. Had a ton of calls. I'll be firm on the price but to go back and Jack up the price is pretty shitty. That's when you know you sold it too cheap.
 
I hate that too. I have a had a few times that I gave someone a price on something and then realized after the fact that I could have gotten a lot more for it. I've never backed out on a deal with someone over it, though.
 
Couple things I've learned buying and selling online as much as I do are 1) Start high, you can always come down on price. 2) If the deal was there once, it'll be there again...especially if you're not afraid of shipping. 3) If you come across a guy that doesn't know what he has, and you know the price point is too low, educate the guy. Chances are you'll still make the deal at the original price and what goes around, comes around.
 
agree with all said and I'd like to add don't be "that guy" whom agreed on the phone to pay X amount and then when you get to my house try to Jew me down more.
 
I've dealt with this too. Product X cost $$$... Oops to low! Damn.

So they get somebody on a trade deal.

That gets under my skin more than anything. We have agreed on a price, now stick to it and don't waste my time trying to negotiate a second time.
 
Long gone are the days when a mans word and handshake are terms of agreement that will never be broken.
 
UPDATE: I guess the asshat decided to relist the sander. He's literally asking FIVE TIMES what we he listed it for originally. I don't even know what to say.

I love when I list something, stating that price is firm, then the d-bag shows up, says he only brought x and if I'll sell it for that.

I've had a couple ruh-tards try to get pissy that I wouldn't take the lesser amount they brought with them and that they drove "all that way" and wasted their time.

Im getting tired of calling someone in the morning to tell them im coming at 4 and call them at three to find out its sold. After i took off work early, filled the truck with fuel. Is there craigslist etiquette or am i just the idiot?

As much as i think both parties should stick with a deal dont seem like many people feel the same anymore. Been stood up more times than i care to count with craigslist. So its simple as first with cash gets it. I will no longer hold anything i sell on craigslist. Now on nc4x4 so far had nothing but great success with deals ive made here, and i have held onto things for members a few times.
 
I worked out a deal on a trailer. I was going to drive about 3 hours to get it. I told him on a Friday I wanted it but wouldn't be about to come but wouldn't be able to come get it til Monday. I call him Saturday afternoon to verify a time and he tells me he sold it! Punk!!!!

I understand if he is was in need of money and someone come in right then to buy. If I make a deal with someone, I give them until the agreed upon day of meet/pickup. If you aren't there by that time then it goes to the next person.
