So far, they will only be the owners & the USDA still requires the same standards, they will still be employing US workers, so don't jump ship yet. People still need jobs here! Wait till the huge population in China realizes how great bacon is. Then prices will soar, the you can shout about it.

This. As long as the producing plant is in the United States, they have to follow all the USDA and FDA Regulations. What will probably happen is they will buy the producing plants and export the pork products to China because the population in China is too large to produce it's own food. Then the pork supply in the US will drop and the demand will still be here causing the prices to go way up.

it's really hard for me to believe it would be cheaper for them to import US-made bacon that getting it made domestically.

I don't think it's about money, I think it's about space for growing hogs. But I've never been to China. All I know is that they buy a LOT of chicken from the US. Or at least they did until the stupid bird flu.

then there is the conspiracy theorists who warn that its about controlling the American food supply.

Friend of mine had a job selling chickens to china for house of Raeford. Sold a lot of chicken and chicken parts.
The Smithfield plant in Tarheel is one of my F-I-Ls biggest clients hope nothing changes for him.
