Two guys appearing to be in their twenties rang my door bell. Very long story short, they are trying to get me to buy magazine subscriptions, but based on their story, I'm quite sure its a scam. The dude that did all the talking said he is majoring in chemistry and communications at NYU and will work towards his PhD so he can do cancer research. I said "If you go to NYU, what are you doing way down here in NC selling magazines door-to-door?" The answer was something about there are 200 people doing this and they have to travel the entire east coast for 12 weeks so they don't knock on the same door twice.
WTF? Are there people that fall for this load of :poop:?
When I shut the door and turned around, my wife was standing around the corner with my .40. I wish she would have stepped around where they could have seen her with it!

I bought a magazine subscription from some college aged kid once, the scenario was very similar to yours. They were selling magazines as part of some contest supposedly, and which ever kid sold the most subscriptions won a trip to some 3rd world country or some shit. The magazine came as promised.

A neighbor had a break in at around miday on a week day last summer. Found out several "soliciters" were going door to door that day selling "Home security systems" and could give a quick estimate if they could come inside and look around!!:flipoff: and evedently breaking in when they found nobody home at semi secluded houses. The had a Van that would ride around and do lookout and quickly pick up the theives in the driveway after they grabbed stuff to steal and be gone in minutes. One neighbor who was home thought it was odd 2 jerks knocked on the door while a third sat in the van in her driveway w the motor running. From the description of them they knocked on my folks door 6 miles away the next day selling "Energy efficieny services" and carrying clipboards and badges. I answered the door and one guy sounded slick and talked fast, the other looked like a crack or methhead. I didn't see any white van. I had not heard of the breakin yet or would have invited them in and called the cops and told them to look for a white van near this address.

Had 2 guys stop by at 8 tonight taking survey/selling magazines. I think the attack dog scared them enough they didn't ask any more questions.
