drive shaft help

how much up and down travel does a rear drive shaft do?im thinking of a project and the problem im having is, to make this drive train FIT into my chassis,the rear shaft has to be 18 inches long . is this to short for a buggy type chassis,4 bar.?the reason it going to be so short,is my motor is moved really far back,and my front shaft will be around 48 inches long.

It all depends on your suspension. 18" it crazy short, but some jeeps do it. Put a CV joint at the trans and point the pinion at the end of the CV, but leave it down about 2" from pointing at it. Make your slip as long as you can and you should be ok.

thanks for the info,i might be able to move everything forward about 8 more inches,so that will make the shaft 26 inches,i will have to put the radiater behind the rig,thanks again
