Drive Shaft length with a tummy tuck on a TJ?

Trying to put together plans for how to upgrade, and taking into account the wife's adamant rule we are getting a pool either end of this summer, or next spring.
:(
Ideally, I'd hit the lotto and do it all at once, but that ain't gonna happen.
So if I do one of the super sort SYEs, and the DS, would I have issues with DS length doing a tummy tuck at some point in the future?
I don't think it would, cause it would only be about 2" or so at that point?
But before I waste money and get murdered by the boss I figured I'd post on here and ask.

Cheers

Your best bet is to do them at the same time if possible. That way you can order the driveshaft once and not have to pay to have it lengthened.

I am gonna have a used Goferit flat belly pan for a TJ available in the near future, maybe that would help you keep your cost down a little bit.

You will definitely need to extend the driveshaft when you put the flat belly on.

Make sure you have budgeted in for adjustable upper control arms if you don't already have them.....

If I can help with anything just let me know.

Hmm, let me know when you have the goferit skid.
I was planning on doing the order of:
1) adj UCA, SYE/DS
2) 1" (or 1.25") BL/MML
3) Belly up
4) 8.8 or 44 rear end.

Does the goferit skid need the BL like some of the others?
Just read and answered my own question.
yes it does. Argh, wife not going to be happy as always. :D

Save some money and do it all at once. And grow some balls! :flipoff2:

Maybe you could do the hack and tap fab your own skid plate or get that used one from andy then get the ds taken care of.

Try going with 1-3 at one time and 4 can come later. Your driveshaft should work fine when you do the 44/8.8 later or you can have it cut down a tad on the cheap.

Just save up a bit longer, you will save yourself more in the long run.

Hmm
She'd just cut off the new ones too?
Hehe.
Actually we're both trying to save money, (very very overly paranoid about debt etc etc. To many friends got laid off in the past then lost cars/houses etc. I'm not going to run any risk of going overboard in debt.)
As for the hack and tap, I thought about it, but I'd rather pay a little more and get the "right/better" solution.

Andy, yea, that's what I was thinking based on your reply. Any idea time frame when you'll have the skid plate? I figure I want to have 1-3 done before camp jeep at the end of July. (Not that I'll really need it, just if I have a clear date, I can be motivated)

Maybe I should just give up, buy a civic. This hobby ain't for those with a light wallet. :D

Is the output shaft in the SYE kit of any better quality/metal than the OEM shaft?

I always see the "hack & tap" method being referred to as less than optimal, but if it's the same steel (and I suspect it is, and even if not, is it the weak point?), then what's the problem?

Sorry for the 'jack

The HD versions are 32 spline instead of 27, MUCH beefier in size over the stock 231 shaft. They also allow for a longer driveshaft and the do not load the rear output housing bearing like the H&T versions do. You will spend about $80 on a H&T or ~$230 on a HD version.

We very often replace the H&T SYEs with the HD versions. Doing it once correctly is cheaper than once "almost right" and the fixing it.

I talked to the skid's owner and he is dropping $$ to me for his new setup today/tomorrow. Skid should be available within 2 weeks. He will also have a set of used adjustable control arms available if you are interested. We put them on a year or 2 ago and he is going to a Clayton's long arm kit with their belly pan.
Call me if you are interested.
