Driveshaft yoke question

Anyone ever had a problem with a drive shaft yoke that you just couldn't get the U-Joint to move freely?

I've tried 3-4 ujoints just to make sure, but I'm starting to think the yoke might be tweaked. I can get both caps in nice and easy get one clip seated and when I go to put the second clip in, it starts to jam the joint up where it won't move freely. I'm talking literally a pubic hair thickness of difference in being able to seat the clip.

I've scraped and scrubbed the groove out clean, no dice. I've smacked the yoke with a sledge to relieve tension from installing the caps. Nothing. Take the clip out and give it a slight smack and the joint moves free but I can't quite seat the clip. Tap the cap back in just enough to seat the clip and the joint binds up again.

Thoughts, solutions?

Take a hair of material off the end of the cap(s). We run into this daily, not all castings are identical, so the tolerances vary.

No problem, hope that works.

Take it to Olivers and have them do it, problem solved.....

I generally buy Spicer joints and they usually come with about a dozen clips of varying thicknesses for just such an even! :D

Only their solid joints come with multiple clips, but that does help in some situations.

Yup, they are a couple thousandths different, ususally different colors.
