Late July, my BIL and I are driving up to Newfoundland for some wilderness hiking, see the E coast, hopefully even a little 'wheelin'. Most likely taking his FJCruiser.

Anybody does this trek? Or even to Nova Scotia? It's basically 24 hrs of driving to the tip of NS where we'll pick up a ferry at North Sydney. Maine is only 1/2 way from here lol. We'll probably stop and camp somewhere around Bangor.

Not been there but did haul some Ceramic Insulators to Sept Isles, Quebec once. 14% grades in a KW pulling a flatbed was a little intense, started in Golden, Colorado at Coors. Hope you can speak french. LOL

North Bound and Down!

How did you actually GET to Sept Iles in a flatbed? I googled it... said you take a highway NE out of Quebec, but then you have to get on a boat and ferry across the St Lawrence. (Said kinda the same thing for Newfoundland, BTW... and that looks like a LONG ferry ride).

Hwy 138 from Quebec City, Quebec. This was a journey instead of a trip.

I grew up in Northern Maine, about 30 miles from New Brunswick Canada. Bangor is kinda a tourist trap, along with Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, both very nice and scenic, but if you want to get the real feel of outdoors and wilderness, drive the extra hour north and go camping and wheeling at Baxter State Park. Spent many many summers in that place, and its very secluded and great hiking with nobody around to bother you. It will be worth the trip for sure. My avatar pic is a section of Baxter State Park. That is Mt. Katahdin, the last mountain in the Appalachian Trail.

Need a navigator?:D

This will be a 12 day trip... but... how do you feel about wilderness hiking? We could actually use a 3rd man. See my thread under "Camping"...

jfitz, thanks for the tip. I'll check out that park. We only picked Bangor b/c it's ~1/2 way. I may hit you up for more info.

That sounds like a FUN trip! I'd love to go on a trip like that, finding someone to go with me would be the hard part! How is the layout in Newfoundland? I'm gonna guess few roads, are there any trails you already know of that you plan to run? Or are you just planning to go park and hike?

No problem, I was born and raised up that way, so I can give you some cool places to visit. You might not want to leave Maine...haha. You can PM me or give me a call 919-475-8259. Just let me know what you want to do, and I can steer you in the right direction. You are going to have a blast.

I will be up there in October. I am bringing a bunch of my buddies up there for a week. We are going into my hunting camp. Might shoot some deer and ruffed grouse.
